|Big news for everyone in Cutsyke! The local Post Office is on the move, but don't worry, it's not going far at all. It's setting up shop in a freshly refurbished spot just down the road, and it’s bringing something new and tasty with it. The plan is to combine the essential Post Office services everyone relies on with a brand-new Deli and Sandwiches store. So, soon people will be able to post a parcel and pick up lunch at the same time. The best part? The same friendly postmaster will be there to greet customers, the opening hours are staying exactly the same, and all the current services will be available. It’s a move designed to make the branch better for everyone.
What's changing (and what's not)?
The biggest change is, of course, the location. The current Cutsyke Post Office branch at 157 Aketon Road will be moving to a new home at 63 Leeds Barnsdale Road, Cutsyke, WF10 5HT. It’s a really short trip, only about 90 metres away, so getting there will be just as easy. Think of it as less than the length of a football pitch. This move is all about securing the future of the Post Office in the area. Postmasters often run their branches alongside another retail business, which helps keep the essential services available for the community for years to come. In this case, the new premises will house both the Post Office and a lovely new deli.
While the location is changing, a lot is staying the same. Customers will see the same postmaster, which is great for continuity. And there’s no need to adjust schedules, as the opening times and business hours will be identical to the current ones. All the products and services people use regularly will also make the move. Whether it’s sending mail, dealing with parcels, accessing banking services to get cash, or paying bills, everything will be available just as before. The only real difference is a much-improved building and the bonus of a deli right there in the shop.
All about the new premises
The new building was previously empty, so this move is also bringing a vacant property back to life. It's undergoing a full refurbishment to create a modern and welcoming space for both the Post Office and the new deli. A major focus of the work is on improving accessibility for all customers. One of the standout features will be a brand-new entrance. The current building has a step, which can be tricky for some. The new premises will have a wide door and completely level access, making it much easier for people with wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or even parents with pushchairs to get in and out without any hassle. A lot of thought has gone into making the branch as user-friendly as possible.
This commitment to better access and accessibility continues inside. The new branch will be fitted with a hearing loop to assist customers who are hard of hearing, and there will be plenty of space for a wheelchair to move around comfortably. This careful planning ensures that the essential Post Office services are genuinely available to every member of the community. Combining these modern facilities with the convenience of a retail counter that also serves as the Post Office point makes for a much better experience. The new location is all about creating a bright, accessible, and multi-functional hub for Cutsyke residents.
Key dates for your diary
To make this move happen, there will be a short period of downtime. It's important for local residents and customers to pop these dates in their calendars to avoid any confusion. The current Post Office branch will close its doors for the final time on Saturday 9 May at noon. This will allow for the final bits of equipment and stock to be transferred over to the new premises.
Then, the grand opening of the new branch at 63 Leeds Barnsdale Road is scheduled for Tuesday 19 May at 1pm. From that point on, it will be business as usual, with the added bonus of the new deli. The opening hours will remain consistent with the old branch, so there’s no need to learn a new schedule. It’s a short break for a long-term gain, leading to a much-improved Post Office for the entire community.
Here’s a quick look at the opening times, which are staying the same:
Monday – Thursday: 08:00 – 17:30
Friday: 08:00 – 14:00
Saturday: 09:00 – 12:00
Sunday: Closed
Where to go in the meantime
During the brief closure between 9 May and 19 May, Post Office services will still be readily available nearby. People won't have to go far to post their letters or access other essential services. There are two alternative branches that customers can use:
Half Acres Post Office, 20 Beancroft Road, Castleford, WF10 5BW
Wood Lane Post Office, 15 Wood Lane, Castleford, WF10 5PQ
Both of these branches offer a full range of services, so nobody in the Cutsyke area will be left without access to a Post Office. It’s just a temporary measure while the exciting move to the new location is completed. Once the new branch is up and running, everyone can return to their local Post Office, which will be better than ever. The team is making every effort to ensure this transition is as smooth as possible for all its valued customers.
