Not the best racecourse I've been to. In fact it was disappointing. Left early because it wasn't as I expected. Staff were lovely but the available food was diabolical. There was a choice of pizza, pasties and fish and chips outside (all seemed well patronaged). Inside in the bar on the 3rd floor the available choice was limited. Mostly sandwiches. The young man serving the food had no clue about what was available. Didn't know what the soup choice was? Cold sandwiches , crisps and very little else. Downstairs sold mostly cakes and a few sandwiches. Lots of hot drinks to be had. Atmosphere downstairs was terrible. Upstairs the atmosphere was much better. One recommendation to them would be to ensure that visitors was dietary requirements are looked after. Gluten free, vegetarian, vegan etc. It's 2025 so I don't see why it should be a problem to any establishment serving food. I understand that there was an expensive restaurant on site but you had to book beforehand. Don't know what the food was like though.
A plesent track with good stand space and bars, Easy to see the donkeys. Lots of bars with lots of flat cap folks happily loosing money while having a good day put racing. We did hear more than a few complaints about the quality of the beer and cider on the day and this pushed Guinness sales a lot. Clean toilets plenty of polite stewards offering help. Overall, it was a good day out.
Fabulous day of racing at Wetherby for the Boyles Flat Cap & Pearls raceday yesterday. We were a family party of 10 including a senior, a 3yr old and two teenagers and had Premier Enclosure tickets. We found a space in the 1891 bar and used that as a base. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. Most of the adults in our party embraced the theme as did many others (which was fabulous if a bit cold for some), but it was nice to see a mix of people and dress, so if you didn't want to dress up, that was fine too. Although we had youngsters (15 & 17) in our party, we never felt wary and were comfortable letting them decide where they wanted to watch the racing and move around on their own a little. It was busy, but not crazy. We didn't eat in the 1891 but chose to go down to the paddock foodstalls and had a very tasty and welcome, hot Cornish pasty. We are not big drinkers but we had a couple of bottles of prosecco and there were alcohol free options such as Guinness 0% and a flask of water to help yourself which was great. All our party enjoyed the day and we will definitely be coming back. The other thing I must mention, is the racecourse employees. We had a couple of changes to our party and I needed to contact the office who responded quickly and were very helpful. On the day, one of our party was running late and seeing us standing getting cold & wet, the official advised we could leave the tickets at the information desk and the reminder of the party could pick them up from there. Obvious perhaps but as our first time, we had no idea. Everyone we spoke to was very nice.
Cracking boxing day out. Chose the infield option, cheaper ticket. Car to center of track, food van close bye, but able to take own food in, right next to finishing post, uncrowded, betting stands think there were 8 to choose from. Looked across the course to observe the crowding of other options and was quite complacent with our good choice. Added bonus we were also in the winter sunshine. Great day out. Will be back!
Family fun day was great! Would 100% go again! Good food, drink and entertainment, even if I didn’t win on a single race!
