The Story of “Facing the Waves”

“Facing the Waves” revolves around the life of Henry Freeman, an iconic Victorian hero and the sole survivor of the 1861 Whitby lifeboat disaster. Freeman’s journey to prove himself as the coxswain of the Whitby lifeboat is paralleled by the story of Faith, a modern RNLI crew member. Faith, following in the footsteps of her predecessors, tackles the challenges of work, family, and her duties as a lifeboat crew member. The musical portrays the reality of living in coastal towns and the pressures faced by those who crew the lifeboats—ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

This new musical is brought to you by an award-winning composer and features a cast from London’s West End. The production aims to leave a lasting impression with its powerful story and memorable songs. “Facing the Waves” is more than just a musical; it’s a tribute to the enduring spirit of coastal communities and their unwavering commitment to saving lives at sea.
