Sue Ryder's Zip the Cow Event Returns with New 'Moon-lit' Experience on July 11, 2026

Welcome to Yorkshire

Published on May 20th, 2026

Excitement is building in Yorkshire as Sue Ryder announces the return of its famous Zip the Cow event, now featuring a brand-new experience called the ‘mooon-lit’ zip session. Set against the stunning backdrop of Ilkley Moor, this thrilling high-speed zip wire challenge invites participants to soar through the air while supporting a vital cause.

Event Details

The much-anticipated Zip the Cow will take place on Saturday, 11 July 2026. Adventurers will have the chance to walk to the top of the iconic Cow and Calf Rocks, where they will launch themselves down a 270-metre zip slide that reaches speeds of up to 35 miles per hour. This year, the event introduces a special twilight session, allowing thrill-seekers to experience the rush of flying through the air as the Cow Rock and its surroundings will be beautifully illuminated.

Community Spirit

According to Andrew Wood, Senior Fundraiser at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice and Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice, “We see each year that Zip the Cow is a superb way for families, friends, clubs, and colleagues to celebrate special milestones and memories.” This event has become a beloved tradition in the community, where participants come together to cheer on their loved ones as they zip across the landscape. Andrew adds, “It’s always fantastic to see people laughing, cheering and waving as granny flies overhead! We hope this year will be just as exhilarating, all while supporting such an important cause.”

Who Can Participate?

The zip slide is open to anyone aged eight and above, provided they weigh between 32 kg and 111 kg and can navigate the rough path to the top of the Cow Rock. No prior training is necessary, making it accessible for a wide range of participants. Each person who completes the challenge will receive a bespoke ‘I Zipped the Cow’ medal, serving as a memento of their adventure.

Sponsors and Registration

This year’s headline sponsors are Crag & Co. Accountants and LCF Law, who are instrumental in making this thrilling challenge possible. Participants can choose between two registration options: ‘with fundraising’ and ‘without fundraising’. This flexibility allows everyone to join in, whether they want to raise money for Sue Ryder or simply enjoy the experience.

How to Sign Up

Places for the Zip the Cow event are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested individuals are encouraged to sign up early to secure their spot. For more information and to register, visit the Sue Ryder website at sueryder.org/zipthecow.

Making a Difference

Last year, Sue Ryder provided over 655,000 hours of care, demonstrating its commitment to being there for those who are dying or grieving. The charity believes that how people die matters, and it strives to offer hope, dignity, and kindness in the most challenging times. By participating in events like Zip the Cow, community members can help ensure that others receive the support they need.

As the day approaches, the anticipation for the Zip the Cow event continues to grow, promising an unforgettable experience for all involved. Whether it’s the thrill of zipping through the air or the joy of supporting a meaningful cause, this event is set to be a highlight of the summer in Yorkshire.
