•A lively charity quiz night at a Pickering farm shop and café has raised an impressive £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. The event, held last Friday, was organised by the team at Cedarbarn Farm Shop and Café and featured local quizmaster Michael Kipling leading the fun-filled evening, alongside a delicious buffet supper.
Successful Fundraiser
The quiz night took place at the Thornton Road venue in Pickering and was designed to bring the community together while supporting a great cause. Lauren Turnbull, the event organiser, expressed her gratitude to everyone who participated, stating, “Thank you to everyone who supported this fabulous fundraiser. It was a great event, and we’re delighted to have raised so much for such a deserving cause.”
Supporting Local Heroes

Proceeds from the quiz will be shared between two local participants, Danny Hague and Sabrina Coultas, who are gearing up for the Ernest Cooper Ride of their Lives in June for Macmillan Cancer Support. This event helps raise funds to support people affected by cancer, providing them with essential services and support.
A Track Record of Giving
Over the past two years, the Cedarbarn team has made a significant impact, raising over £43,000 for various charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support and Prostate Cancer UK. This is no small feat and demonstrates the team's commitment to helping those in need. Co-owner Karl Avison is also participating in his second Ride of their Lives in 2024, further showcasing his dedication to charitable causes.
Quiz Winners
The quiz itself was a competitive affair, with the winning team led by Ollie Pears. Such events are not only a great way to test knowledge and enjoy a night out but also serve to strengthen community bonds as people come together for a common goal.
Looking Ahead
With the success of this quiz night, Cedarbarn is already looking forward to future events that will continue to support local charities. The next big event on the horizon is the Ernest Cooper Ride of their Lives, scheduled for 13th June. This exciting race will allow participants to help raise even more funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, ensuring that vital services remain available for those affected by cancer.
