As the summer sun shines brightly over Yorkshire, there’s no better time to visit the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster. Recently, during the first heatwave of the season, the park’s dedicated rangers went above and beyond to ensure the animals stayed cool and comfortable.
With temperatures soaring to 28 degrees Celsius, the park’s rangers handed out special fruit ice lollies to a variety of animals. This thoughtful treat was part of a broader strategy to keep the wildlife safe and content in the heat. Polar bears and tigers took full advantage of their pools.
The black rhinos received a luxurious mud treatment to protect them from the sun’s rays. Najuma and her baby Rocco enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to wallow in a specially filled mud pool.

The park’s sea lions enjoyed their fish served frozen, while Prince the Binturong relished a refreshing carrot and sweet potato ice pop. Ibera, one of the park’s magnificent Maned Wolves, savoured a nutrient-rich “blood ice-pop” made from fish blood, combining essential nutrition with a cooling treat.
